Garr sums up what I think and have been banging on about for some time: If your “PowerPoint deck” can be perfectly and completely understood without your narration, then it begs the question: why are you there?

I read the Sweller article this morning and came to the same conclusion. PowerPoint is just the tool of choice for many. If you're a poor presenter or can't get your message across it's easy to blame PowerPoint. People need to be helped on how to tell stories and convey their message and *then* use the tools. You wouldn't buy a Ferrari without knowing how to drive and then call it a poor car because you couldn't drive it...not that PowerPoint is a Ferrari of course ;)
